If you love a quick sewing project, you can’t go past the Pencil Case pattern from Anna Graham’s book, Handmade Style. (You can read my review of Handmade Style here). All you need is some fabric, a metal zip, interfacing, and bias tape. The pencil case was made in under an hour. It is an understated style, which would look great in a range of modern or traditional fabrics.
I took a short cut and used some ready made linen bias tape in a pink gingham. The bias tape is manufactured by Captain 88 ( a Japanese brand) and comes in gingham, polka dots, and solids. It is a beautiful quality tape and adds a lovely finishing touch to your sewing. I first discovered Captain 88 in Japan – I wish I had stocked up on more tape.
I made the pencil case from a lovely floral washed linen that I bought a few years ago from a Quilt Fair, and added a leather patch for interest.
Handmade Style also includes a pattern for a matching Tablet Case. I will have to add that to my list!
It is the perfect size to tuck into my handbag to keep a few stationery supplies at hand.

Hi Joy – The store I bought it from is no longer operating.If you search on Etsy for leather label or zakka label, you should be able to find some similar styles.
