Nautical Gift Wrapping Ideas

Nautical Gift Wrapping Ideas by A Spoonful of Sugar

Giving the gift wrapping a little bit of extra attention can really make your gift more memorable. Whilst adding bows and ribbons to gifts for the girls, is fairly easy, it can be more difficult to come up with some packaging decorations for the guys. I have been having fun today making some nautical gift wrapping accents to add to gifts.

Nautical themed wrapping is really fun to put together. You probably already have some supplies on hand. Find supplies in coastal colours of white, sand, blue, green or nautical colours of red, navy, and white. Suggested items to use include:

  • gift wrap – old maps; brown paper; plain coloured gift wrap in shades of white, blue, or red.
  • origami paper
  • ribbon – grosgrain in plain colours or featuring stripes
  • rope or twine
  • shells

Gift Tags:

Gift tags are quick and easy to make with a fun Fiskars Teresa Collins Anchor punch which is perfect for nautical themed gift tags. For these tags, I added an anchor cut from cardstock and some bakers twine to a plain circle.

Bunting:

Nothing screams nautical like bunting! Cut some pennant flags from cardstock, stick them together using your sewing machine,  and decorate with anchors. Wrap the bunting around your package.

Origami Boats:

I loved making these origami boats in primary school. They are quick to make and actually float! This would be a fun project for kids to make. You can find directions for two styles of boats here. I made some using small rectangles of paper measuring 3 1/2 x 5 inches which made small sized boats, perfect to use as a gift topper.

Knots:

Gather some rope or twine and practice your knot making skills! For this package I used the Carrick Bend knot. you can find directions here.

These were so much fun to make! Check out some of our other gift wrapping ideas here.
