My latest coaster pattern – the Irish Coaster – celebrates my Irish ancestry and has been released in plenty of time for you to make a batch for St Patrick’s Day on 17 March. My great-great-grandmother immigrated to Western Australia from Dublin. This cheerful leprechaun’s hat features a black hat band, gold buckle and lucky shamrock. It doesn’t get more Irish than that!
Seasonal coasters and mug rugs are a fun way to swap out your decor for the holidays throughout the year. Like most of my patterns, this one can be easily made in around an hour and is beginner friendly. Pair the coaster with Irish breakfast tea and cookies to make a sweet gift. I used gold chocolate coins in my photography to represent the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Dig out your favourite green fabrics for this project. I used some lovely green fabrics from Ruby Star Society Hole Punch Dot and Sugar collections. You can find gold metallic wool felt from a variety of Etsy Sellers. It makes a lovely shiny gold buckle. When you are pressing your coaster make sure you don’t iron over the gold surface of the gold felt as it melts the lovely shiny surface.
The shamrock applique is sewn onto green wool felt and then attached with a button to the side of the hat. This little feature is a sweet finishing touch.
The Irish Coaster pattern is an 8 page e-pattern which includes full sized templates in both Letter and A 4 formats to suit your home printer. The pattern is available in both our Pattern Store and Etsy shop. Looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? This Irish Coaster is the perfect start to your journey.
