Handy Drawstring Pouch

July 11, 2019 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

Whether you are storing items in your sewing room, taking your lunch to work, or giving a gift, these drawstring pouches are handy to have around. Flat bottomed, reversible, and eco-friendly, they are perfect for stowing small items.

I use a Handy Drawstring Pouch as a gift bag – they are perfectly sized to hold a small treat. They are easily constructed in around an hour using this beginner friendly pdf pattern.

Selecting coordinating fabrics is one of my favourite parts of sewing. In this trio of Handy Drawstring Pouches, I have used a floral print as the feature, and three coordinating fabrics in designs of ticking, stripe, and plaid/check. The lovely fabric shown is from the Plum Garden and Tea Towel ranges by Tilda. (Thanks to Two Green Zebras for generously providing the fabric used in this project).

These pouches are constructed using a pattern template which gives them a flat base. Unlike other pouches which use the boxed corner technique, this pouch consists of four fabric panels that are shaped to provide a flat base. They stand up perfectly when empty. If you check out the lining in the photograph below, you will see the shape of the panels.

Our 12 page pdf ePattern contains the pattern template, and lots of step by step photographs to assist you in the construction. Handy Drawstring Pouch is perfect for beginners and can be easily made in an afternoon. Head to our Etsy store to check out the pattern.

If you loved this project, check out our Bath Time Buddies which also feature the Tilda Plum Garden Fabric range.

    These are really pretty.
On another note, can I just say that for the last few weeks when I have wanted to open a post from your website either directly from Bloglovin’ or just through Safari it comes up with a warning that your site isn’t safe. x

Hi, I am having the same experience as Kay when I open a link to your site on the
Bloglovin’ Daily Digest I receive every day. Any post on this blog to your site has a warning not to open. I am only on your site because I came directly not via their link, and I really wanted to view the “Handy Drawstring Pouch”.
