Folded Hexagon Ornament

December 11, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 11 Comments

Folded Hexagon Ornament from A Spoonful of Sugar

With only two weeks left until Christmas, we are starting to put the finishing touches to our decorating, before we start on the holiday baking. I love this time of year – spending time with family and friends, and making and baking special treats for my family. I love to make handmade decorations to hang on the tree and decorate gift packages. When I spotted some Folded Hexagon Ornaments over on Pinterest, I couldn’t wait to try them!

Folded Hexagon Ornament from A Spoonful of Sugar

Made from a fabric hexagon, they are folded, secured with a few stitches, and then finished off with a button. I used a hexagon with 6 inch sides. This resulted in an ornament sized at 2 inches from tip to opposite tip, with sides measuring 1.5 inches. You can make them in any size you wish. Once you have mastered the folding technique, they can be quickly and easily made in around 5-10 minutes.

To suit my Christmas theme, I used some lovely cream fabrics featuring snowflakes and text. I used some wooden buttons to secure the centre, and some vintage French silk thread to make a loop for hanging on the tree.

If you would like to make some folded hexagon ornaments, check out this Youtube Clip which demonstrates the folding technique. There are written instruction here. If you search for Folded Hexagon on Pinterest, you will find loads of examples.

I love how vintage they look – perfect for our vintage Christmas! Be warned – it is hard to stop at one. You can find more ideas for a vintage inspired Christmas here.
