Crochet Rug

April 30, 2015 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 24 Comments

Crochet Rug by A Spoonful of Sugar

It has been a year in the making, but I have finally finished my crochet rug. If you follow us on Instagram, you have probably seen progress shots of this rug which I started back in April 2014. It has been a good project to work on in front of the TV at night, in between other projects.

I have had a lot of queries about the crochet pattern used in this project. I found the pattern over on the Dutch blog, Haakkamer 7. The pattern is in Dutch but there is a handy translation guide here. You can find an English translation for the pattern at Garn Studio (it is the large flower motif).

Crochet Rug by A Spoonful of SugarI used a 3.75 mm crochet hook. The yarn I used was Moda Vera Beetle, a cotton/acrylic blend, that is available from Spotlight stores nationally.

I made 64 squares in green, light pink, dark pink, red, and white. The worst part was stitching in all the yarn ends. I love how pretty and fresh it looks with the white border and edging.

This is just lovely! I’ve been looking for something my daughter might like and this looks perfect. I would love to know how much yarn you used and how big it is.

Thanks Laura – I didn’t really keep track of the yarn as my daughter is using the same colours on her crochet project as well. I just kept going back and buying more as needed. I made it 8 squares wide by 8 squares long. It measures 50 inches square which is a good size for a lap rug.

This is lovely. Top tip so you never need to sew as many ends in again is to crochet over the yarn length as you join in a new colour. It will lock in the yarn & less ends to sew in. Another thing to try when you have all the same colour squares or you know the order you want your completed project to be is to join the squares as you crochet the last round.

I an so taken with this rug, it is absolutely gorgeous, first time I have ever left a message. Bravo, do you think I could use this pattern for a baby blanket.

Thanks Anna – the pattern has a lot of large “holes” which could be a problem with little babies as their hands may get stuck. You may be better with a pattern that is closer together for a new baby.

Sharing a closer look at the Handy Drawstring Pouc Sharing a closer look at the Handy Drawstring Pouch today — a sweet little project that’s as practical as it is pretty. I stitched this one in the blue and gold colourway of the Tilda Songbird collection and love how the soft watercolour florals shine in a small make. The pouch features cleverly shaped panels (with no boxed corners), stands tall when in use, and folds completely flat for storage. It’s also reversible, which makes it such a fun and versatile sew.   These little pouches are perfect for organising your sewing room, gifting to a friend, or popping into a project bag.The pattern includes three sizes, and you can find it in both my Pattern Store and Etsy shop. Comment HANDY and I’ll send the link straight to your inbox.A big thank you to @tilda_australia for gifting the beautiful fabric.#tildasongbird #drawstringbagpattern #aspoonfulofsugardesigns #tildafabrics #sewingproject
