The Braided Heart Mug Rug is my latest sewing pattern – just in time for Valentines Day! I was inspired by the classic braided Scandinavian paper hearts. They are usually made in classic red and white for Christmas. I have used a softer palette and they are perfect for spreading kindness and joy – one heart at a time!
The Braided Heart Mug Rug is a beginner friendly sewing pattern. It includes simple postage square patchwork panel that has the curved heart top added to each side so that it resembles a heart. This little cutie can be quickly and easily constructed in an hour or so. All you need is 3 fat eighths of quilting fabric and a scrap of batting.
The Braided Heart Mug Rug would make a sweet Valentines Day gift but they are also perfect for the whole year. Combine them with a coffee mug and your favourite blend for a thoughtful gift.
In these samples I used Sincerely Yours fabric range by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda. The pink and peach colours are sweet. When choosing contrasting fabrics, look for fabric with a small-scale print. You will need a light fabric (with a white or low volume background) and a darker contrasting fabric.
