{Book Reviews} The 150 Healthiest Slow Cooker Recipes, and Sweet Bitesize Bakes

August 10, 2012 By Spoonful of Sugar - 1 Comment

We have two fabulous titles this week for the home cook.

The 150 Healthiest Slow Cooker Recipes on Earth, by Jonny Bowden and Jeannette Bessinger is a great resource for family meals. During the winter months, our Slow Cooker is well used, but we are always on the lookout for new family friendly recipes. What we love about the recipes in this book, is that they all involve minimal preparation, and have a delicious and healthy result from using lots of fresh ingredients.

The Book is divided into chapters on – Mains; Stocks, Sauces, Purees and Infusions; Side Dishes; Appetizers and Snacks; Drinks, Desserts, and Breakfasts. Each recipe includes nutritional information, such as calories per serving; fat; cholesterol; fibre; sugar; protein. carbohydrates etc. The cookbook also includes Time Saver Tips, and Variations.

Minestrone

Some of our favourite recipes so far include: Fiesta Mexi-Chicken; Taste of India Lamb; and Beef Biryani. Only a small selection of the recipes includes photographs. I tend to be a visual cook so this was a disappointment. You can find a google preview of the book over at Fishpond.

Overall, if you are have a Slow Cooker and enjoy making healthy family meals, then The 150 Healthiest Slow Cooker Recipes on Earth would be a great addition to your library. I know we will be using it a lot this winter.

These basics are then combined into 25 tasty projects – including Fondant Fancies; Mini Cupcakes; Cutesy Cookies; Little Tiers; and Petit Fours.  The recipes are all rated for different skill levels, so there is something suitable for all bakers. The recipes are very pretty and would look great at your next party or High Tea.

Oh yes, slow cookers are a God send during the winter months. What a fabulous title for a book, “Bake Me I’m Yours.” Love it!
