Baby Wrap

September 6, 2011 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 14 Comments

A muslin baby wrap and co-ordinating muslin baby wash cloths, make a sweet gift for a summer baby. The muslin is so soft, and the loose weave makes it cool, when swaddling a baby. Muslin is now available in a lovely range of colours and prints. Double guaze would also work well.

I founds some sweet printed muslin and finished it off with a gingham trim, for a more traditional look.

Pretty and practical!

Muslin Wrap measures 120 cm x 120 cm (47 x 47 inches)
Materials:
1.2 m ( 1 1/3 yards)  Printed Muslin
5 m  ( 6 yards) Gingham Bias Trim (25 mm/1 inch wide)
White cotton thread
Trim the muslin so that it measures 1.2 m (47 inches) on each side. Use a drinking glass as a template to draw rounded corners and cut to shape. Attach the bias binding around the perimeter of the muslin according to manufacturer’s directions.

I also made some Muslin Washcloths to match.

Washcloth measures 30 cm x 30 cm(12 x 12 inches)
Materials:
0.3 m  (1/3 yard) Muslin, plain or printed
1.2 m (1 1/2 yards) gingham bias trim (10 mm/ 3/8 inch wide)
White cotton thread
Cut the muslin into a square measuring 0.3 m (12 inches) on each side. Cut the corners so they are rounded, using a drinking glass as a template. Attach the bias binding.

You can find pretty bias tape at The Haby Goddess.

Edit: In Australia you can find plain and printed muslin at Spotlight. It is a loose weave fabric similar to gauze. You can also find it on Etsy and Ebay – search for printed muslin or gauze.

So sweet, and I love the little teddy bear pilot print – so cute.
My accuquilt arrived yesterday and I can’t wait to give it a go. I’m forcing myself to finish a cushion cover I’ve been working on first before I open the box. Nothing like a good reward to motivate!

Where did you find the printed muslin? I’m having a hard time finding a good source.
