There’s something magical about sewing for Christmas, especially when the fabrics are as cheerful and inspiring as Merry Happy by Kim Kight for Ruby Star Society. This delightful collection blends bright, happy designs with a perfect balance of vintage charm and modern style. While the range embraces traditional Christmas colours, it also includes fresh and playful combinations that appeal to makers who love a more contemporary take on holiday decorating.
The prints are packed with festive fun, featuring gummy bears, wrapped gifts, twinkling lights, gift wrap designs, packages, and other whimsical motifs that capture the joy and excitement of the season. Every fabric in the collection feels like a celebration, making it easy to create projects that bring colour and personality to your Christmas decorating and gift giving.
One of the things I love most about Merry Happy is its versatility. The collection works beautifully for both traditional holiday dΓ©cor and more colourful Christmas themes. The vibrant prints and playful motifs add a sense of fun to every project, while the coordinated colours make it easy to mix and match fabrics across a variety of makes. Using just a Fat Eighth Bundle, I was able to create several projects that showcase the collection in different ways.

Mini Treat Pouches
The first project I made was a set of Mini Treat Pouches. These little pouches are perfect for holding chocolates, gift cards, small sewing notions, or other festive surprises. The scale of the Merry Happy prints works beautifully on small projects, allowing even tiny fabric pieces to showcase the charming motifs. These pouches are quick to sew and make wonderful handmade gifts, stocking stuffers, or additions to a Christmas table setting.

Luma Bucket
Next, I created a Luma Bucket, which is one of my favourite projects for displaying festive fabrics. The structured shape and generous size make it ideal for holding Christmas treats, sewing supplies, ornaments, or seasonal dΓ©cor. The mix of prints and colours from the Merry Happy collection creates a cheerful patchwork effect that brightens any room and adds a handmade touch to holiday decorating.

Pocketful of Sunshine Bag
The Pocketful of Sunshine Bag provided a wonderful canvas for showcasing a variety of fabrics from the collection. The bag’s patchwork-style construction allows multiple prints to shine together, highlighting the playful designs and vibrant colours. Whether used as a project bag, gift bag, or everyday tote during the holiday season, it captures the joyful spirit of Merry Happy perfectly.

Sugar Totes
I also made several Sugar Totes using fabrics from the collection. These versatile tote bags are ideal for holiday gifting, shopping trips, or carrying sewing projects. Combining different prints from the range creates a fun and coordinated look, while the sturdy construction makes them practical as well as festive. They are a great way to enjoy the collection on a larger scale and show off some of the more detailed prints. (Exclusive to the Makers Bundle).

Threaded Tokens
The Threaded Tokens were a fun opportunity to use some of the smaller fabric pieces from my bundle. These sweet little projects highlight the whimsical prints beautifully and make thoughtful gifts for sewing friends. They’re quick to stitch and are a wonderful way to enjoy the fabric collection while creating something both useful and decorative.
Merry Little Tree Coasters
One of the most festive projects in this collection was the Merry Little Tree Coaster Set. These coasters are perfect for holiday entertaining and make lovely handmade gifts. The bright fabrics bring each tree design to life, creating colourful accents for a Christmas table. They are quick to make, practical to use, and a great way to add handmade charm to seasonal gatherings. (Photo coming soon)

Ribbon Pouch
My final project was a Ribbon Pouch, which allowed me to combine several of the collection’s favourite prints into one useful accessory. The pouch is perfect for storing sewing supplies, Christmas gift tags, or everyday essentials. The cheerful fabrics make it feel extra special, and the playful motifs peeking out each time it’s opened are guaranteed to bring a smile.
A Merry Happy Christmas
Working with Merry Happy has been such a joyful sewing experience. Kim Kight has created a collection that perfectly captures the fun, nostalgia, and excitement of the holiday season while offering a fresh, modern twist. From practical pouches and tote bags to festive coasters and decorative storage baskets, every project feels bright, cheerful, and full of Christmas spirit. If you’re looking for fabrics that celebrate the season with colour, personality, and a touch of whimsy, Merry Happy is a collection that will inspire countless holiday sewing projects.
