My goal this year is to be more eco-friendly. In my efforts to reduce the amount of gift wrapping paper I use, I’ve been making a variety of gift bags in different shapes and sizes. It is like giving two gifts in one! My latest sewing pattern design is the Mini Drawstring Gift Bag. This sweet design uses just 4 layer cake squares of quilting fabric (10 x 10 inch squares) and drawstring cord.
It is fun coordinating different fabrics for Mini Drawstring Gift Bag. The exterior of the bag uses two contrasting fabrics, and it is fully lined in a third fabric. I used a Tarrytown Layer cake from Ruby Star Society for this cheerful trio.
The gift bag has a cleverly crafted base so that it stands up by itself. The base actually resembles a coffee pouch. As a result the lining is cut a little smaller than the exterior so that it fits nicely within the bag and giving you a smooth appearance. The lining is constructed with boxed corners.
These little gift bags are sized to hold smallish gifts – they measure 6 inches wide x 7 inches tall (with the drawstring open).
Be warned! You won’t be able to stop at one. Before long you will have a whole batch of sweet bags.
You can find the Mini Drawstring Gift Bag in our Pattern store and Etsy shop for immediate download. This pattern is suitable for a confident beginner and takes around an hour to construct. Make them in your favourite Holiday fabrics for eco-friendly gift wrap option.
