{Book Review and Giveaway} Margaret Fulton’s Baking Classics

May 7, 2015 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 26 Comments

Margaret Fulton's Baking Classics

Margaret Fulton’s Baking Classics is a beautiful book that includes over 80 recipes to inspire you in the kitchen. Margaret Fulton is one of Australia’s most well known cookery writers with more than 25 titles to her name. Most Australian households would probably have one of her many cookbooks on their shelf, I know we have a couple! This volume contains all the well loved baking classics and would be a wonderful resource for any home cook. As you know, Sarah and I love to bake, and we were drooling over this book. I think the cover tangy lemon tart will be one of the first recipes we try!

Orange and Blueberry Cake

What we love most about the book is the stunning photography and styling (as you can see from the gorgeous photos we are sharing here). Each recipe is presented beautifully and the hard part is deciding which recipe to make first!Double Chocolate Cake

The recipes are divided into the following chapters: Biscuits; Brownies and Slices; Muffins, Scones, Shortcakes, and Quick Breads; Cakes; Small Cakes and Buns; and Pastries and Tarts. You will find recipes for crisp brandy snaps, fudgy two-tone brownies, buttery wholemeal scones, traditional shortbread, honeybuns and a delicious fig and mascarpone tart. Whether you are baking for your family, preparing a plate to share with friends, or for a special occasion, you will find plenty of inspiring recipes.

Fresh Fig & Mascarpone TartMargaret shares her baking tips and tricks to help you achieve a wonderful result. The recipes include clear instructions and lovely photographs.

What a great giveaway -thanks so much. Margaret Fulton has been a sentimental favourite of mine since I spent some wedding present money on one of her cookbooks nearly 40 years ago. I have newer books by Margaret but this one is often referred to and even though It’s falling to bits I’ll never get rid of it. I love her style and her recipes and the fact that she’s a wee Scottish lady like me!

I love Margaret Fulton and my first cookbook was one of hers – it’s where, along with help from my Mum, I learnt to cook and bake. I love to cook cakes and biscuits, and desserts for my family and friends.

I love to bake and eat lemon tarts or lemon meringue pies, so the tart would be the first thing I would bake. Yummo!

What a lovely book. I received one of Margaret’s books as a prize in Home Ec in the late 70s and received another as an engagement gift. They are great resources even now. As baking is my favourite type of cooking this would be a great addition to my bookshelf. Thanks for the opportunity.

My mum used to make the rock cakes from an old Margaret Fulton cookbook. All of her recipes were wonderful and fool proof. Would love a copy of her new cookbook. .

My favorite thing to bake is squares or dessert loaves. Brownies – Banana Squares with Banana Icing – and Banana Loaves etc. These are staples in our home – also crumple cake using any fruit we have on hand – fresh or frozen.
