Simple and Festive Decorating Ideas for Christmas

November 15, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 7 Comments

Sponsored by Target

Christmas is our favourite time of year! We love to decorate our home, make gifts, bake special treats, and embrace all the joy of the festive season. Our Christmas preparations are well under way and we look forward to sharing some of more of our Christmas craft and baking with you over the coming weeks.

We were delighted when Target asked us to review their Timeless range of Christmas Decorations which feature traditional colours of red, green, and gold. We have used decorations from the Timeless range to put together 8 simple and festive decorating ideas for you to create your own timeless Christmas.

Simple Christmas decorating

Portsea Lantern + Timeless Decorations

1. Decorate with Lanterns

Gather some colourful baubles and use them to fill a lantern. Lanterns make great table centrepieces or position them on a side table for an attractive display. Vary the shape and colour of the baubles to make an interesting arrangement.

2. Let There Be Light

Upturned wineglasses filled with small Christmas decorations make the perfect stand for small votive candles. These would look simple and elegant on your Christmas table.

Timeless White Wooden Tree Cut out Decoration, Bonbons, and Canteen Plates

3. Decorate each Plate Setting with a Simple Decoration

Simple wooden decorations have a classic appeal. Place a sprig of greenery on a cloth napkin and top with a wooden decoration.

4. Simulate the Senses

5. Welcome Santa

Make sure you don’t forget Father Christmas! Leave a plate of treats and welcome note.

Gift Wrapping Station

Timeless Gift Wrap, Gift Bags, and Tags

6. Gift Wrapping Station

Be organised for Christmas. Set up a gift wrapping station complete with wrapping paper, gift bags, and gift cards. Decorate packages with some simple decorations and wrap as you go to save time on Christmas eve.

Hanging Bauble

Timeless Christmas Decorations

7. Framed Bauble

Re-purpose a photo frame and tie one special hanging bauble to the frame to create a beautiful and classic display.

8. Decorate with Cake Stands

As bakers, we have a range of cake stands at our disposal (we have a rather large collection – ahem!). Turn some everyday items around your home into attractive displays by filling them with Christmas decorations and baubles. Use cake stands, vases, fruit stands, salad bowls, or whatever props you have available in your home. Fill them with baubles and they make great displays on your mantelpiece or table. Add some greenery from your garden to complete the look.

We usually put up our Christmas tree and decorate our living room on December 1. We crank up the Christmas carols and really enjoy our festive decorating.  If you are looking for affordable decorations that are on trend, check out the extensive range at Target.
