Advent Countdown

November 30, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

Advent calendars are a tradition in our home. We always love the countdown to Christmas and the festive season. This year I have gathered some white tea pots, tea cups, dishes, jars, and other assorted bits and pieces from around our home. I have hidden chocolates around the Advent installation, and numbered them all. It only took a couple of hours to assemble and even though my “kids” are now adults, they have assured me they are not too old to partake in some Advent fun.

I used assorted plain tags, numbered stickers, stamps, twine, and coloured pegs to number all the items.  A few packages were simply wrapped in brown paper and string. I used what I had on hand in my craft cupboard, and purchased some Christmas themed chocolates for the treats.

I was inspired by this project from Marie Claire Idees. It is always so satisfying to repurpose objects from around your home in your holiday decorating rather than purchase expensive decorations.

One of my favourite ideas for Advent were these Advent Houses that I made for Quilting Art Gifts a few years ago, featuring raw edge applique and a little pocket in the back to hold treats. You can read more about my Advent Houses here, and find a pattern to make your own here (Valentine House variation – the original pattern is no longer in print).
