{Book Reviews}Simply Color Series, by Vanessa Christenson

July 27, 2015 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

{Book Review} Simply Color Series by Vanessa Christenson

Popular sewing blogger, Vanessa Christenson, of V & Co, has released a new range of books that celebrate color. The first three books in the series – Red, Orange, and Yellow – are available now, with Green, Blue, and Purple set to be released in Australia later in the year. The books promise to be a crayon box for quilters and they inspire you to look at colour differently so that it is the hero in your project. Each book discusses color theory relating to the individual color, and then showcases four quilts and two smaller projects, specifically designed to celebrate the featured colour. These books will really get you looking at your stash differently.

What we love most about this series of books are the beautiful photographs that really celebrate each colour. Each book contains useful theory relating the colour value, tints, saturation, tones, complementary colours, and winning colour combinations. There are lots of fun monochromatic projects to excite you to create.

The red (and pink) projects include four quilts – Red Cross, XOXO Quilt (featured below), Nordic Folklore, and Queen of Hearts.

I stitched this one in the new Tilda Songbird fabric, and I couldn’t resist sharing a closer look at the clever little cord lock that keeps everything snug. There’s something so satisfying about these tiny mechanisms — the spring inside, the gentle click, the way it gathers the top so neatly.
