We recently had the opportunity to interview Ericka and Jessica, the creators of Violette Field Threads.

Where do you go for inspiration? What trends do you follow?
For women’s pattern inspiration we find lots of fashion we love on pinterest and in fashion magazines.  It is fun to challenge ourselves to create things that push us outside of our comfort zone and forces us to continue learning.
piper website 9
Tell us about your women’s collection and why you have expanded into women’s sizes.
We have expanded into women’s sizes primarily due to consumer demand, we have been asked countless times to put our designs into “mom” sizes.  We love it now that we have taken the leap, it is so satisfying to sew garments for yourself.
Piper website 10
What types of fabrics do you like to use in your sewing?
We love sewing with cottons, however sewing garments for ourselves has really helped us to reach out and try other fashion fabrics.  We adore sewing our clothes out of knit, voile, lawn and stretch, they are so comfy and a lot less scary than you may think!
piper website 7
What makes your patterns unique?
Our patterns are unique in several ways:
– They are enjoyable to sew for many skill levels. Most all of our patterns can be completed by patient beginners but they are challenging enough to keep the attention of more advanced sewist as well.
– Our patterns are fashion forward while still maintaining enough classic elements that the garments will stand the test of time.  People will be shocked that you “made” these garments, they look like off the rack clothing not “home-made”.
– Beautiful presentation; both our Paper and PDF Products are full of inspiring photography and attention to detail.

I have in the past although I’m not very good with zips. I’d love to try my hand at dress making again. I love the stripey dress. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

I used to sew for myself and having been looking for fabric and patterns lately to do it again. I do sew for crafts and I want to sew for myself again – mainly because I cannot find a dress that fits and has SHORT sleeves. Even some of the short sleeved dresses have sleeves that are the wrong length and aren’t attractive because of it. That’s easy to handle when you sew for yourself. A great, cute pattern for many, many ages.

I finally delved into sewing for myself 🙂 Love it now. But I find it hard finding patterns that are designed for short people, so I find I still have to make alterations; but at least it’s easier to do that now!
