There is something wonderful about having new stationery at the start of the year. It is fresh, new, and full of possibilities. I like to get organised for the year ahead and have reorganised my desk. I needed a new notebook and found one from a conference that would be perfect to cover. I love a good recycling project! I adhered some white paper to the outside of the notebook to cover the advertising so it didn’t show through the book cover. Then it was covered with pretty wrapping paper and decorated.
I have had plenty of practice in covering books over the years. With the new school year fast approaching, it is time to get started on covering all those text books. Book coverings don’t have to be boring. Here is a basic technique for making a dust cover for a book. You can then personalise the cover with a range of craft supplies (such as washi tape, patterned paper, labels, stickers etc) so that your books stand out.
How to cover a book:
1. Cut a piece of wrapping paper that is 2 inches wider than the height of the book and long enough to wrap around the book with approximately 4 inches to spare.
2. Fold over 1 inch at the top and bottom of the paper so that it is the same height as the book.
3. On one end, fold over 2 inches. Insert the book into the flap formed where you folded the edge.
4. Fold over the remaining flap and insert the other side of the book into the flap so that the cover fits snugly.
5. Decorate the outside of the cover with washi tape, pattered paper, stickers, labels etc.
