{Book Review & Giveaway} Magic Cakes by Christelle Huet-Gomez

September 16, 2015 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 81 Comments

Magic Cakes, Three Cakes in One!

Magic Cakes: Three cakes in one: one mixture, one bake, three delicious layers by Christelle Huet-Gomez is a wonderful new cookbook that showcases a delicious assortment of Magic Cakes. Magic Cakes are three cakes in one, this is every cake-lovers dream! Composed of just eggs, sugar, flour, butter and milk, and with a super simple preparation method. But the magic in these cakes is in the cooking. Baked at a low temperature, the cake mixture divides itself into three layers, each with a distinct texture and taste: a dense, moist cake base; a delicate cream filling; and a light and fluffy sponge to top it off. The cakes look really impressive but are really simple to bake. They are perfect for celebrations, dessert, or simply when you would like a sweet treat.

Magic Cakes, Three Cakes in One!

Salted Butter Caramel Cake

With chapters covering the Basics; Tutti-Frutti; Special and Occasion Cakes; and Savoury, there are a host of flavours at your fingertips, from the simple vanilla cake or chocolate hazelnut, to more exotic flavour combinations of raspberry and Matcha green tea. More than just cakes, there are recipes for cupcakes, pies, cheesecakes and brownies – all with the special ‘magic’ touch. As you can see from these images, everything in the book is beautifully photographed. The hard part is deciding on which cake to bake first! The book has a helpful section on practical tips and golden rules to get you started on baking perfect Magic Cakes.

Magic Cakes, Three Cakes in One!

Praline Cake

Sarah baked a Vanilla Magic Cake this week and it was so delicious. We enjoyed it for dessert with a vanilla ice-cream. If you follow the simple steps, the recipe works perfectly, and you get a magic cake with three distinct layers. We thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who loves to bake.

WOW. Just … WOW. I opened Amazon and pre-ordered that puppy by the time I saw the second photo, lol. I have a particular love for German Chocolate cake, but I like most flavours – chocolate … lemon … almond … butterscotchy/caramelly … vanilla … when it comes to cake, I just say YES 😀 Thank you for a great giveaway – it’s extra nice that everyone can enter!
