Jelly Clip Purses

August 4, 2015 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 15 Comments

Jelly Clip Purses made using Jelly Clip frames by Lecien fabrics

I love making small, one of a kind purses, so when I discovered Lecien had produced a range of colourful purse frames, I was keen to try them out. In the past I have used metal purse frames that needed pliers to clamp the frame to the fabric. These Jelly Clip purse frames are glued to the fabric and were a relatively quick afternoon project.

The frames come with a pattern to make a sweet little purse which features a slightly gathered top and a roomy interior. All I needed for the small purses was two fabrics (I used two layer cake squares), some fabric gluy, and some lightweight interfacing. The hardest part was deciding which fabric to team with the frames. Now that I have mastered the basic purse, I will be playing around with the design to make some original purses.

My top tip for making these purses is to firstly cover the frame with some masking tape in case you are a little heavy handed with the glue! I did get some glue on one frame but it was easily wiped off with some nail polish remover.

The Jelly Clip frames come in 3 sizes (I have used the small size in these purses) and eight colours – which make it easy to make one of a kind purses. The fabric used in these samples is L’s Modern. You can read our review of the Jelly Clip Purse frames here.

Disclaimer: Thank you to Lecien Fabrics for providing the fabric and jelly clip purse frames used in this project. All opinions are our own.

      Hi Liz

The Jelly Clip purse frames come with the pattern included. They are a new item from Lecien Fabrics and are currently available from a number of online stores on Etsy. The Australian distributor has recently received some so they should be more readily available in Australia and New Zealand soon. You can find some on Etsy here: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=jelly%20clip%20purse%20frames

Were can I get the Jelly Clips? I need just the clips, I have the pattern. I have the 14 cm size. I would like to get the other sizes. I know I would have to get the patterns for the other sizes.

Thanks for any help you can give.

The patterns included with the frame. I am currently giving away a frame over on instagram 😉 There are a number of sellers on Etsy who stock the frames and as they are a new product they should become more readily available.

I’ve always wanted to try to make little coin purses like these. I love the colors you picked.

I asked my local business to order these for me. Having read all the previous comments, I wasn’t worried about a pattern. Well, they arrived, and the pattern included is in Japanese. Guess I will have to see if I can figure it out on my own, or hit up a friend across the state to have her daughter-in-law interpret.

Hi Judy – Mine arrived with two patterns – one in Japanese and one in English. Check with your frame supplier – she should be able to send you through the English instructions. Lecien did prepare an English language version and it was really clear and easy to follow.

Thanks, I did a net search and found a copy of the English version on the EE Schenck website. Can’t wait to get started.

Sorry to hear it isn’t going smoothly! My first one was a bit messy. You can remove the excess glue with nail polish remover. For my second one, I taped the frame with masking tape to protect it from glue seepage. The trick is not to use too much glue. Good luck!

Glue? Does the purse actually hold money? Being held together by glue doesn’t seem very permanent or strong. Any ideas how to reinforce the situation?

You also can use the paper string to wedge the fabric in tightly in the frame. Some people use super glue but I used a fabric/craft glue and it seems to be holding without any issue. I don’t put a lot of heavy coin in mine though.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely going to use the string.
