Travel Shoe Bags

December 7, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 16 Comments

Ladies Travel Shoe Bag

We are making a start on some Christmas gift projects this week. First up are some travel shoe bags – they are a practical gift  for a traveller and can be used to store shoes, clothing, or laundry in your suitcase. We have a lot of novelty prints in our fabric stash (some with a travel theme), which are perfect for shoe bags. This is a fat quarter friendly project.

Ladies Shoe Bag

We used our Men’s Shoe Bag Tutorial and resized it for Ladies Shoes. If you would like to make some shoe bags for ladies, you will need 3 fat quarters.

  • Fabric 1: Cut a rectangle measuring 15 x 13 inches (front of bag)
  • Fabric 2: Cut a rectangle measuring 15 x 13 inches (back of bag)
  • Fabric 3: Cut a rectangle 15 x 8 inches (base of the bag); cut two strips measuring 15 x 21/2 inches (casing for the drawstring).
  • Cord :2 1/2 yards, cut into two equal lengths.
  • Fabric label (optional)

Then follow the tutorial for the Men’s Shoe Bag. It has step by step photos showing the construction method. This is a great project for beginner sewers.

Ladies Shoe Bag

We also made another Man Sized Travel Shoe Bag using this Lucky Cat Manekineko Fabric for someone who loves travelling to Japan.

I’m a fan of drawstring bags of all sizes, they’re just so handy. I’ve made many of your little drawstring bags, now to make some shoe bags! Thanks very much.

I love these bags. I have made lots of smaller versions for all the little people in my life. This is a fantastic blog and it is so refreshing to have a crafty site that is Australian (even better that you are in WA) Keep up the great ideas-I love trying them out.

Hi love your work . Can you please tell me where I can buy the lovely lables that you have sewn onto the shoe bags. They make a wonderful finishing detail and I would like to add them to my own bags. Thank you.

My son is in the Navy. He has white shoes, with white soles and has to pack them for travel often. I can’t wait to make him this bag. I am not a crafty person, but know what I want. I think I will line this with white fleece and I think I will have to put a divider so the shoes don’t touch each other. I’m hoping those changes won’t be hard to make.

Thank you for the idea and “How to”

Happy sewing Anne! Fleece lined shoe bag would be great for white dress shoes.
