With the arrival of some cooler weather, my crafting over the past week or so has involved playing with some of the gorgeous organic yarns that are around at the moment.
This one is a wool and soybean blend – really soft and warm……
This one is a bamboo and cotton blend….
I have traded my old knitting needles for some bamboo needles and have really enjoyed the difference.
Sarah and I are addicted to Master Chef on Channel 10 at the moment and have been snuggling under this crochet blanket while we watch. I worked out that I made this blanket 27 years ago when I was 17 years old. It was the year I was doing my Year 12 exams and my reward for every hour of studying, was to crochet a few rounds. It is still going strong but after seeing all the lovely afghans around at the moment, I feel quite inspired to make an new one.
I have started this Cherry Tree embroidery from Marie Claire Idees and am enjoying some stitching in front of the TV.
We have a long weekend coming up this weekend, in celebration of Foundation Day, when the Swan River colony was founded in 1829. I hope to get back into some sewing over the weekend. I see another quilt in my future!

Beautiful stitching – what stitch pattern is that???
That green cotton bamboo blend yarn looks gorgeous. I’ve just finished working with a cotton bamboo blend and just loved it!
I’m glad to hear that someone else is addicted to MasterChef as well 🙂
I love the colors in your new blanket and I can’t wait to see the Cherry Tree when it is done.
Have a good weekend!
Boy, you’ve got lots of fun projects going. I especially love that pretty cherry tree!
what a lovely blanket with a nice story.
the cherry tree is very nice.
That is a great looking blanket. i can still remember the wonderful blankets that my grandmother crocheted. They were all of little squares finished in black and the rainbow effect of the colours was what has stayed with me.
Your cherry tree is GORGEOUS. And so is all that history with your blanket. You are absolutely right – I need to get cracking and make one for kid snuggling.
Oh my! I just love that cherry tree embroidery, it is beautiful! The knitting is gorgeous too, I really love the white one’s stitch pattern. I just tried some yarn made from sugar cane! Crazy what they can make yarn out of these days. It is probably the softest yarn I have ever knit with. It will be a baby cardigan, hat and booties.
What lovely yarn, it looks warm and soft. I also use bamboo needles and just love them too.
Your afghan is so beautiful, it is amazing how long homemade things last. Looking forward to seeing your embroidery when it is finished, it already looks very lovely.

Love your knitting work and the blanket you made during your teens is very pretty. Looks as if you just made it.
Great cherry tree!
I just love all the different yarns. I go by feel and there really are some soft ones on the market. Looking forward to seeing the completed stitchery.
That cherry tree is absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see when it’s done.
Lovely colors and that stitchery is going to me wonderful. I love the afgan with all the memories attached to it!! I think it is just as wonderful as the new ones!
love the stitchery……
Have fun preparing for winter. I love my bamboo needles too – planning on extending my collection soon! Love the patterns of the bamboo, cotton and soys – I have been knitting face clothes
I love your tree!!! Can’t wait to see your quilt!

Lisa two of my favourite things to look at (as you know I do next to nothing). Trees and embroidery. Beautiful.
I have a vision of you in my mind snuggled on the couch with beautiful Sarah. I always did it with my kids too.
Thank you on your best wishes for Nathan. And yes the home environment was fabulous but believe me it had its moments.
xoxoxo
The cherry tree embroidery is just gorgeous!!! Do you know what you will make with it?
(we are addicted to Masterchef as well!)
Bamboo needles and cotton yarn are my favorite craft combination!
I love that your study reward was crochet. Mine is always chocolate!
Your embroidery is looking beautiful.
Your embroidery looks so sweet – that is a beautiful tree, be sure to post the finished product!

That’s it! I can’t stand it anymore…I need to learn how to crochet!!!
I can’t bring the sewing machine out to the loungeroom, but I’m not giving up TV either…you’ve just described the perfect couch-craft. And there’s nothing like a snuggly blankie on the couch, everyone needs one of those.
The embroidery is beautiful. Can’t wait to see it finished.
your afghan looks great! hard to believe it has worn it’s welcome so well for so long!
What a lot of history you have got there in that one blanket. Fantastic…My husband is the one in our house that is addicted to master Chef he hasn’t missed an episode yet.

What fun yarns. I wish I knew how to knit. Love the crocheted afgan. So happy.
that et is to die for! i can’t believe you made it when you were 17. wow. a natural born crafter!
These organic yarns look so soft and supple. What lovely stitches you are working on too. So fun to see your blankie! I think it makes it more special with those fond memories you shared.
I love the green bamboo. I want to learn to crochet because I want a granny square blanket in the worst way. I guess the only way I will get one is if I make it myself.
This is my first time visiting your blog and it is lovely! You are very talented 🙂
You are starting to get cooler weather and we are getting just the opposite – heat 🙁
I love to embroider so your recent project looks very appealing to me.
I shall be back often to enjoy all your creations!
Greetings from Mexico ~
