Stash Treasure

July 5, 2013 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

Doll House Fabric Storage

Did you know that some rare and out of print (OOP) fabrics are fetching large sums on ebay, sewing forums and facebook pages? One of my good friends Janelle, of Janelly Belly Bags and Things, who has a wealth of knowledge about quilting fabrics, educated us about this growing market. Apparently there are quilters out there willing to pay large sums to get their hands on rare fabrics for their stash. Fabrics that sell out quickly and aren’t reprinted are especially popular.

Some of the rare fabrics that quilters are after include: Jennifer Paginelli (Flower Power; Elizabeth Rose); Heather Ross (Lightening Bugs and Other Mysteries); Tanya Whelan (Ava Rose); Paula Prass (Botanicka; Summer Soiree); Lecien (Rococo and Sweet; Flower Sugar 2010); Heather Bailey (Pop Garden; Garden District – Sateen). The best auction I found in my research was 1/2 yard of Jennifer Paginelli  Elizabeth Rose that went for $192.50 recently. Wish I had some of that stashed away!

It makes me wonder how much my stash is worth and if I have any hidden treasures in my sewing room.
I have just over a metre of  Heather Ross dog fabric in orange from her Lightening Bugs and Other Mysteries collection. I spotted an ebay seller, selling this in another colourway for $38 for a FQ.

I would love to know if you have sold any rare fabrics from your stash, and if you have seen any other amazing prices for rare fabrics. I will have to assure my husband that my fabric stash is actually an investment.

Hmmm….I have a piece of Heather Bailey Pop Garden. Wonder if my old Joel Dewberry Ginsing has any special value? I have a nice sized stash of that!
