If any of our US readers are looking for a last minute Father’s Day project, you can’t go past Spiced Nuts.
Spiced Nuts are easy to prepare – get the kids involved in measuring and mixing. (Not suitable for small children or those with a nut allergy).
Spiced nuts could be placed in a gift hamper with some of Dad’s other favourite treats – crackers, savoury snacks, and his favourite beer.

Ingredients
2 cups of Unsalted Mixed Nuts (we used peanuts, cashews, almonds, and macadamia’s)
1 tablespoon paprika
¼ teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt flakes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 ½ tablespoons honey
Method:
Place the mixed nuts in a bowl. Add the spices and mix to combine. Add the honey and the oil, and mix until well combined.
Spread the nuts in a single layer on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake at 180 degrees C (355 deg F) for 15 minutes, turning occasionally. Allow to cool completely. Stir them occasionally whilst cooling to prevent them sticking. The nuts will crisp as they cool. Add more salt to taste if required. When they are cool, place them in a jar and seal. They are best eaten within a week of making them.
Kids can make a special label for the jar of spiced nuts – all they need is a plain shipping tag, ribbon, and scrap booking supplies – and their imagination.
