With lots of milestone birthday’s coming up in our extended family, I have been working on a number of birthday cards. Nothing beats a home made birthday card where you can personalise the colours and design to suit the person. I have been playing around with a few designs for milestone birthdays and have come up with some easy birthday cards to make.
Supplies and Equipment:
- white card
- scrap-booking paper
- washi tape
- dymo embossing label maker
- rubber stamp and stamp pad
- small punches (flowers, hearts)
- adhesive rhinestones
- sewing machine
- glue tape
- foam backed squares
Cut out numbers that are sized to suit your card. I used my cricut expression die cutting machine to cut the numbers (using the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge). If you do not have a die-cutting machine, you can cut the numbers freehand, or else print them out using your computer and word processing program (e.g Microsoft Word) and trace onto the scrap-booking paper. I used double sided scrap booking paper so the numbers would be complementary one floral, and one geometric.
Attach the numbers to the card using some glue tape. Stitch around the numbers to hold them in place. Use an old sewing machine needle as stitching on card will blunt the needle. (I keep an old needle just for this purpose). Pull the threads to the back of the card and tie off.
Using small craft punches, punch out a few flowers/hearts etc. Add a rhinestone, and attach to the card using foam squares. Add a length of washi tape to the bottom of the card. Attach an embossed birthday greeting.
Stamp a greeting on the inside of the card. Cut a rectangle of card and attach to the inside of the card to cover up the back of the stitching.
